Rainbow Eucalyptus Tree Seeds (Eucalyptus deglupta)
Rainbow Eucalyptus Tree Seeds (Eucalyptus deglupta)
The only naturally multicolored tree on Earth. Living bark that looks painted.
Eucalyptus deglupta, the Rainbow Eucalyptus, is the only eucalyptus species native to the Northern Hemisphere and the only tree in the world with naturally occurring rainbow-colored bark. As the bark peels in vertical strips, it reveals layers of green, blue, purple, orange, and maroon that shift and intensify as they age and oxidize, creating a living canvas that changes throughout the year. Native to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea, this is a true tropical giant that grows at extraordinary speed in warm climates. If you are looking to buy Rainbow Eucalyptus seeds or grow this one-of-a-kind tree from seed, this is the closest thing in the plant world to a living work of art.
- The only tree in the world with naturally multicolored bark, displaying green, blue, purple, orange, and red tones
- One of the fastest-growing trees on Earth in tropical conditions
- Native to Southeast Asia, uniquely adapted to warm, humid climates
- Smooth bark peels continuously, revealing new color layers year-round
- Widely used in tropical regions for pulpwood and fast biomass production
Things you probably did not know about the Rainbow Eucalyptus
The colors develop as the bark oxidizes.
Newly exposed bark begins bright green due to chlorophyll, but as it ages it transitions through blue, purple, orange, and finally deep maroon. The constant peeling and oxidation process creates the signature rainbow effect, with multiple color stages visible at once on a single trunk.
It is the only eucalyptus naturally found north of the equator.
While most eucalyptus species are native to Australia, Eucalyptus deglupta is indigenous to tropical regions of Southeast Asia, making it unique within the genus and better adapted to humid, equatorial climates.
It grows incredibly fast in the right conditions.
In tropical environments with consistent warmth and moisture, Rainbow Eucalyptus can grow over 6 to 10 feet per year, quickly becoming a towering presence in the landscape. It is often planted in managed forests for rapid pulp production.
The colors are most vivid in humid climates.
The intensity of the bark coloration is strongly influenced by moisture and humidity. In drier or cooler climates, the colors are often more muted, while in tropical conditions they become intensely saturated and vibrant.

FAQ
FAQ
Do you pre-stratify the seeds?
Most of our seeds are not pre-stratified. We ship them unstratified so you can control germination timing based on your local growing season. We sell to all 50 U.S. states and Canadian provinces, and since each region has different planting windows, pre-stratifying would risk seeds germinating in transit or before you're ready to plant.
True stratification requires cold, moist conditions, which can lead to premature sprouting or mold if not timed properly. To avoid this, we store most seeds in dry cold conditions to preserve viability — but this does not initiate stratification.
Do any of your seeds need to stay moist? (Recalcitrant seeds)
Yes — some species we offer are recalcitrant, meaning they must remain moist to stay viable and cannot be dried out. Examples include: Chestnut, Hazelnut, Paw Paw, etc.
These seeds are shipped in moist cold storage and are clearly labeled on the product page when applicable. Please refrigerate immediately upon arrival and follow included care instructions.
Do you ship internationally?
We currently ship to the United States and Canada only. Unfortunately, we cannot ship to other countries without a phytosanitary certificate, which is required by most international customs agencies.
If you're interested in shipping outside North America, please contact us. Note that a phytosanitary certificate typically adds $60–$80 USD per seed type and must be arranged in advance.
