Quaking Aspen Tree Seeds (Populus tremuloides)
Whispers in the wind. Nature’s storyteller.
Populus tremuloides, the Quaking Aspen, is one of North America’s most iconic and widely distributed trees. Its shimmering, heart-shaped leaves flutter in the slightest breeze, creating a soft, constant motion and sound that defines entire landscapes. Paired with its bright white bark that glows in winter, this tree brings year-round visual impact. Hardy from the Arctic to the mountains of Mexico, it thrives where other trees struggle and forms some of the most ecologically rich habitats on the continent.

- Leaves shimmer and flutter in the lightest wind, creating a calming natural sound
- Spreads by root suckers to form large, connected clonal colonies
- Brilliant yellow-gold fall color with exceptional wildlife value
- Cold-hardy, fast-establishing, and tolerant of challenging soils
Things You Probably Didn’t Know
It forms the largest living organism on Earth.
A single Quaking Aspen colony called Pando in Utah spans over 100 acres and includes more than 47,000 stems, all connected by one root system. It is estimated to be tens of thousands of years old.
The “white bark” is actually protection.
The pale coating on Aspen trunks contains betulin, a natural compound that reflects sunlight and protects the tree from temperature swings in winter.
It makes energy even without leaves.
Aspen trunks contain chlorophyll and can photosynthesize through their bark, allowing them to produce energy even in winter.
It builds entire ecosystems.
Aspen groves support more species of birds, mammals, and insects than most other forest types in the western United States. Where Aspen grows, biodiversity follows.

FAQ
FAQ
Do you pre-stratify the seeds?
Most of our seeds are not pre-stratified. We ship them unstratified so you can control germination timing based on your local growing season. We sell to all 50 U.S. states and Canadian provinces, and since each region has different planting windows, pre-stratifying would risk seeds germinating in transit or before you're ready to plant.
True stratification requires cold, moist conditions, which can lead to premature sprouting or mold if not timed properly. To avoid this, we store most seeds in dry cold conditions to preserve viability — but this does not initiate stratification.
Do any of your seeds need to stay moist? (Recalcitrant seeds)
Yes — some species we offer are recalcitrant, meaning they must remain moist to stay viable and cannot be dried out. Examples include: Chestnut, Hazelnut, Paw Paw, etc.
These seeds are shipped in moist cold storage and are clearly labeled on the product page when applicable. Please refrigerate immediately upon arrival and follow included care instructions.
Do you ship internationally?
We currently ship to the United States and Canada only. Unfortunately, we cannot ship to other countries without a phytosanitary certificate, which is required by most international customs agencies.
If you're interested in shipping outside North America, please contact us. Note that a phytosanitary certificate typically adds $60–$80 USD per seed type and must be arranged in advance.

The seeds are well packaged with instructions on the sealed envelope they came. I am excited to get these sowed this weekend. In fact all the seeds I ordered were well packaged and the threw in a free package of seeds. I can’t wait to see the results when they finally sprout.
Arrived on time and they even included a few free seedlings
Reasonably quick and efficient. Hoping for a solid growth of trees.
